Jason Bonham grinned from ear-to-ear standing
at the bottom of the steps; his hands were full of rice. His best friends and
fellow angels, Eric Lane and Jonathan Hardy, flanked him. Eric held a bag of
blue and mauve confetti and was worried the confetti would just blow away.
Jonathan was fiddling with Aunt Marian’s camera.
Lauren Russell stood across the aisle scowling
at Jason and his grin. She was sure he was up to something. Kati McClellan and
Sonja Bettencourt stood on either side of Lauren, ready to pounce on Jason if
he did anything untold. After all, Uncle Mike had told them to keep Jason in
line.
The girls were veterans of the Sanders Ranch
and once upon a time were part of Aunt Marian’s favored angels. They wouldn’t
let the spontaneous Jason do anything to ruin this day. Sonja and Kati had
threatened Jason they would sit on him if he did.
“Where are they?” Jason muttered as he
scrutinized his fellow angels. Would they really sit on him in front of the
crowd of people? He decided he didn’t want to find out.
“Be patient Jason,” Eric whispered. “You
know they have to do a bunch of stuff before they can come out.”
“Yeah, I know,” he answered as the rice
slowly leaked from his fisted hands.
“Where’s the bag?” Eric asked pointing to
the dripping rice.
“I don’t know. I dumped the rice out so
I’d be ready when they finally open the doors,” Jason said looking around for
the bag as the pile of rice grew at his feet.
Nickolas Blanca stood next to Jonathan
intently watching his new friends. He secretly agreed with Jason that they were
taking too long. He fingered his own bag of rice and wondered if he should open
it too.
The guests, including the Blanca family
stood in the crowd behind Nickolas and the angels. They were waiting for the
arrival of the bride and groom. Shelley Sanders and Deputy Jerry Blanca were
finally married.
